The Annual Rock Hangover - Rock The World!
Mood:

Topic: Music

photo credit : Albert NgJason Lo, you just earned my props. ROCK THE WORLD 6 is the BEST of the series so far! Every year, over 10,000 music lovers will come together to mosh, skank, headbang, groove, jump, pogo & dance in the name of rock (and their branches). From a car park venue to national monument-status stadium, Rock The World just becoming better and better.
This time I went in for free courtesy of Petrina (the girl that own "I Fancy Bass Player" shirt. Thanks girl! You rock!). Together with her, my "always there" rocker buddy - Albert and a newfound Malaysian studying in Singapore friend (sorry dude, i'm bad with names :p), we hit the annual rock fest with open ears & soul. Later, Choon How @ Frus & the gang joined us. Lovely evening...simply a day to remember.
So let's go through this year band...how they rock the shit out of everybody (not in order of their stage appearances).
The Instrumentalist a.k.a Made Everybody's Jaw DropCosmic Funk Express - Everybody was like "Woah, funky band name. Hope their band gonna be funky too,". OMG, how they got their wishes...Alda and the boys delivered exactly what they want. Zack throw in some mad tapping and read this, DOUBLE GUITAR PLAYING! Not double necks, it's two guitars! Alda gave some uber bass solo & Alex made the drums beg for mercy. Don't believe me? You got to see with your own eyes man...

Deja Voodoo Spells - What can you expect from the guitarist that have jammed with Steve Vai, Gary Hoey, Marty Friedman & Sting before? A hell lot of in your face riff! Man, how am I jealous with his fingering. It moved gracefully but sounded like the the notes were going 200 km/h. Ainol, behind the drums (I always dubbed him as Portnoy prodige') were as the same beast as Rithan. Ainol showed precision, groove & speed at the same time. Their bassist groove as hard as his fellow two monsters which is not an easy task to do. At one time, Rithan tease the crowd with a medley of Metallica's Sad But True, Deep Purple's Smoke On The Water & Jimi Hendrix's Purple Haze (actually, i forgot which Metallica tune he played :p). Damn, he really got us. LOL. Did I mention they have 2 people playing on one synth keyboard? Man...

The Space Travellers a.k.a Weed Are For The WussFurniture - Used to be named as R.U.S.H, these fellows are the front runner of local Chinese indie scene. I only know one song - Chasing Tipperary. Too bad also that time, me and the peeps were taking a break and busy debating about evolution & creation. LOL

Seven Collar T-Shirt - I'm still lepaking with the peeps at the track area watching SCTS from far ahead. All song they played that night were from the Drones album. My favourite were Faith and War Is Over. Faith is very Radiohead/Coldplay-ish and god damn spacey while War Is Over is full of emotional feelings. Just love 'em.

The Pop Generation a.k.a We Can Make You Party All Night LongFrequency Cannon - the winner of Hitz.TV Blast Off, damn they just rock the stage! Thank god the stage can handle them. Kuachee's voice sounded a lil bit distorted. He sounded better the last time I saw them. Overall, they make everybody dance as hard as them on stage. Oh, they covered LO's Evening News. Sounded very funny...

O.A.G - The front runners of mainstream pop rock, there's nothing much to talk about them. Awesome dancy pop rock tune, Radhi's rockstarism same as usual...oh, he smashed a guitar on stage. Simply 1337!

The Times - Basically, kinda the same like OAG. Not really listening because I busy walking around and bump into Frequency Cannon. When you bump into Frequency Cannon, you'll met Azrul, the bassist. Azrul also a gamer so we haveeee a longgg chatttt. Kinda ignore The Times. No offence to their fans :p
The SkankersGerhana Ska Cinta - They start their set with Star Wars's Emperor/Darth Vader tune. Complete with the marching...hahahah~ This band I can say they are like on taiko level alrdy since most of the band members are working musicians (the bassist played for DBKL Orchastra & the vocalist were backup vocalist for Siti Nurhaliza if i'm not mistaken. While the drummer, Bakri...damn, siapa tak kenal Bakri? Hahahahah!). Dancy ska+pop tunes with a few re-energise classic song covers.
Plague of Happiness - if GSC make you dance nerves move, POH brings it upnotch with their wild & heavy ska. Skank it hard, bebeh...too bad their set start around Maghrib time, I got to refrain myself. Sincerely, if they don't have horns section, it would sounded damn empty. For me, their horns section actually holding up the melody. That doesn't mean their vocalist, guitarist, bassist or drummer is not good but yeah, without the horns they gonna have hard times.

The [insert type]coresVormit - grindcore (some said they are metal also). Where the song usually less than 2 minutes long and you can't understand a thing they sang. That's the reality man. Heavy, fast and you just can't understand all those growl from the vocalist. Masing-masing punya cara, muzik tetap universal. *thumbs up*. Reminds me of Custom Daisy.
Cassandra - hardcore. Can be considered as veteren giggers, this band featured dual-vocalist - one growls and one emo-like vocals. Can't understand them much either but they have more melody and stucture than Vormit. They are different genres anyway.

The Veterens a.k.a We've Been Here Couple of Times, ManDisagree - Veteran grunge head are back in the RTW line-up. This marked their 4th appearance at RTW. Since they were from the same company that brought us RTW, we can't complain much :p Been listening to them since I start gigging, they kinda quiet lately...kinda happy to saw them but since they didn't play any new songs, I can't be bothered.

LO - Teh owner of Rock The World literally, he entertain the crowd with his usual stand-up comic ("Yeah, I love you...I love your girlfriends too...") and awesome rock n roll music. If i'm not mistaken, all the song were from his latest album. Love his current single, Sleepyhead. LO totally rocks sial...

PopShuvit - The final band that night. Phewh, the remaining crowd still have energy rooting for them. They invited some familiar faces to join them on percussions such as Hitz's Jakeman & Jimmy of Tempered Mental plus 3 violinist chicks! w0000t! They close the fest with Jump, putting the smile on everybody and of course, you got to jump like there's no tommorrow!

The TaikosThe A.C.A.B - Woah, it's been a while since I saw these punk oi! fellas. But then that night, the songs they played lack the energy (and oi-ness) that I used to listen & love during my high school years. I guess they just evolved...
The Pilgrims - Woaaahhh, wickeeed! Me, Albert and the MY-SG fella can't resist ourself to dance to them. Compared with A.C.A.B, these fella still sounded like good old days. The Chura-Leya song & Sua Sue Good Morning drives the crowd nuts. The best comeback ever although all songs they played were the old ones. Who cares when you busy dancing to it?
Langsuyr - "Kami bukan band black metal yer, tulis betul2...kami band DEATH metal!". I pity them for their album release delay. No thanks to all propaganda of mainstream media on "Black Metal" recently. They are pretty much like your local metal bands - furious, heavy and hard. I'm no metal head so I can't say or do much other headbangs. It's all about speedy riff & drums...headbang sampai lebam!

Random rants- Purple lightsss! (Celcom Xpax theme color is purple) I came out with a theory. The fella that run Xpax division must be Barney. Eiyeerrgghh!
- There's one fighting incident happens. It's not at the mosh pit, it's somewhere at the right side of the stage. Flying kick, pogo, hantam ramai-ramai all got la...dunno what the reason though.
- Just when Langsuyr set started, it started to rain. It felt like Matrix Revolution climax showdown scene. Why? Langsuyr vocalist wore Matrix-like suit. Hahahaha~
- I parked my bike at the same spot I parked for Linkin Park concert & RTW 5. Maybe I should just rent the spot for the rest of my life. Next time when I alrdy have a car, I can park easily. LOL.
- No neck pain this time since I made less movement with my neck, more with my body. Which brings me to a huge swarm of back pain...adoihhh...
You can find some RTW6 pictures at
Jennihsurf.net and
Glaring Notebook Trained (when he post his December pictures).
That's it guys...see you fellas at Rock The World 7!! Damn, that's a very long post.
